Porga

Porga is a small border town on the northwestern edge of the Pendjari park, where the road from Benin crosses into Burkina Faso heading toward Fada N'Gourma. It functions as a secondary entrance to the park for travellers coming overland from Burkina, and there is a basic airstrip nearby that occasionally sees charter flights. For most visitors it is a name on a map rather than a destination — but if you are doing a transboundary trip linking Pendjari with W National Park to the north, Porga is the natural pivot point.

The settlement itself is small, with a customs and immigration post, a couple of shops, and not much else. Expect the border formalities to take longer than you think and bring patience and small CFA notes. From Porga, the park's western tracks fan out into the floodplain country along the Pendjari River.
