The Dômes de Fabédougou are a cluster of unusual sandstone formations rising out of the savannah about 15 kilometres north of Banfora — beehive-shaped domes and mushroom pillars eroded out of a single horizontal sandstone layer over millions of years. The whole field covers about a square kilometre, with the largest domes rising forty or fifty metres above the surrounding bush.
You can scramble between and on top of the formations. The view from the highest domes is the best in the Cascades region — a long flat horizon of sugar fields and forest reaching towards the Falaise de Banfora. Allow two hours including the walk in from the road. The site is easily combined with the Cascades de Karfiguéla in a half-day trip. Best in the early morning or late afternoon, when the angle of the sun brings out the texture of the sandstone.
