Musée Provincial du Houët

The Musée Provincial du Houët occupies a handsome Sudanese-style mud-brick building on the Place de la Nation — itself one of the city's small architectural pleasures. Inside, displays cover the ethnic groups of southwestern Burkina: Bobo, Dyula, Senoufo, and others. Masks, fetishes, blacksmith tools, traditional dress, musical instruments, and ceremonial objects are arranged across a handful of small rooms.

Labels are in French. Guides are usually available and worth taking — they explain rituals and dance traditions that the static displays cannot. The shop sells local crafts at fair prices. Modest entry fee; open mornings and afternoons most days except Mondays.
