When to Go

The dry season — November to February — is the best time to visit. Days are warm rather than hot (28–32°C), nights are cool, and the Harmattan haze that veils the badlands later in winter has not yet set in. Festivals cluster in this period: the National Culture Week (SNC), held in Bobo every other year, is a major draw featuring music, dance, theatre, and craft from across Burkina Faso.

March to May is brutally hot, with daytime highs over 40°C — even residents struggle. The rainy season (June to October) brings cooler temperatures and dramatic skies but also muddy roads, mosquitoes, and intermittent access to outlying villages like Koro and Dafra. The countryside is at its greenest in August and September.
