Gorom-Gorom's Thursday market is the town's real claim to a traveller's time. Traders arrive with livestock, leather, silver, cloth, grain, tea, and food, and the mix of Tuareg, Fulani, Songhai, and Mossi communities gives the market a breadth that ordinary town markets rarely have.
Go early, dress plainly, and ask before photographing people. The market has modern concrete and tin now, but the weekly gathering still carries the old crossroads role of Gorom-Gorom.
