Getting There

Air

The main airlines serving the Central African Republic are Air France (AF) and Air Afrique (RK). Both operate two flights a week from Paris to Bangui.

Approximate flight time

From London to Bangui is 9 hours 40 minutes (including approximately 1 hour stopover in Paris). There are also connections between Bangui and Douala (Cameroon) Lagos (Nigeria) and West Africa.

International airport:

Bangui M'Poko (BGF) is 4km (2.5 miles) northwest of the city (travel time – 30 minutes). Taxis are available to the city (travel time – 15 minutes). A bus service to the city meets all flights. Airport facilities include restaurant post office shops and car hire.

Departure tax

CFAfr2000 is levied on all passengers.

River

The water route by ferry along the Ubangi to Bangui from the Congo or the Democratic Republic of Congo is run by the Democratic Republic of Congo government-owned ONATRA company. There is a car/passenger ferry between Bangui and Zongo and between Bangassou and Ndu across the Ubangi. Fares are very cheap although the service breaks down frequently. It is still possible to hire a boat. The price for this may be high. Do not cross the river to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday or Sunday as the customs posts in that country do not work at the weekend.

Road

Road access is from the Democratic Republic of Congo Chad and Cameroon. There are good all-weather roads from Yaoundé (Cameroon) and Ndjaména (Chad). From the Democratic Republic of Congo it is necessary to get a ferry across Ubangi River from Zongo to Bangui or from Ndu to Bangassou.
