The Nubian House sits on a hill above the east bank with a terrace overlooking Elephantine Island and the Nile, and the view at sunset — feluccas on the water, the west bank cliffs turning gold — is one of the best in Aswan. The food is Nubian home cooking: slow-cooked stews, grilled meats, fresh-baked bread, and the hibiscus tea (karkade) that is the region's signature drink, served hot or cold.
The menu is simple and the prices are low. A full meal for two costs in the range of a few hundred Egyptian pounds. The location is past the Nubian Museum on the east bank, about a fifteen-minute walk from the city center or a short taxi ride. It fills up in the early evening — arriving before sunset to secure a terrace table is worthwhile. Nubian music is sometimes performed on weekends.
