Dendara is 60 km north of Luxor, near the town of Qena. From Luxor, the standard approach is by taxi or private car — a return trip with waiting time typically takes three to four hours and should cost around 300-400 Egyptian pounds depending on negotiation. Some travellers combine Dendara with Abydos, the other major temple site in the region, in a single day trip from Luxor.
Qena is accessible by train from Luxor (about an hour), and from Qena a local taxi can take you the few kilometres to the temple. The alternative is to join an organised tour from Luxor, which handles transport and includes a guide.
