Ageeba Beach

About 24 kilometres west of Marsa Matruh, Ageeba Beach is the most dramatic on this stretch of coast. Stone steps cut into the cliff face lead down to a hidden cove ringed by pale limestone bluffs, with transparent green-blue water and flat rocky shelves that work as natural diving platforms. The water is slightly deeper and clearer than in town, and there's good snorkelling along the base of the cliffs.

The road to Ageeba is a straightforward drive or taxi ride along the coastal highway. A small entrance fee is charged. There are no facilities beyond a car park and the occasional vendor — bring water, food, and sun protection. The beach gets crowded in August but is largely empty from October to May, when the water is still warm enough to swim.
