Gharam Beach

Gharam Beach sits just west of the town centre, a long strip of white sand curving along a sheltered bay with the characteristic turquoise water of the Marsa Matruh coast. It is the most accessible beach in town and fills up quickly on summer weekends. The sea is shallow and calm here — the bay offers good protection from any Mediterranean swell — which makes it a favourite with families and young children.

In the height of summer the beach is lively, with vendors selling corn, watermelon and cold drinks along the shoreline. Out of season it is peaceful, the sand empty and the water clear. Facilities include beach umbrellas and chairs for rent, and several beachside cafes just off the seafront.
