Akhenaten Museum

Regional museum dedicated to Akhenaten and the Amarna period

Address Corniche, Minya

The Akhenaten Museum was conceived as the principal museum of Middle Egypt, dedicated to the Amarna period and the wider archaeology of the Minya governorate. Construction stretched over many years and the museum has had a difficult opening history, but when accessible it provides essential context for visits to Tell el-Amarna, Beni Hassan, and Tuna el-Gebel.

The building is a modern structure on the Corniche with a distinctive Amarna-inspired silhouette. The collection includes statuary, reliefs, and small finds from the region's sites, with a particular focus on the unusual artistic style of Akhenaten's reign — the elongated faces, the family scenes, the sun-disc imagery. Check opening status before visiting.
