Eating Out

Siwa's food is its own thing — a Berber-Egyptian mix with palm dates, olives, and the local abou meredem, a lamb dish cooked in a sand-fired pit. Most of the town's restaurants cluster around the central market square. Expect simple, cheap, vegetarian-friendly food. No alcohol is sold anywhere in the oasis: Siwa is a conservative place.

A typical full meal at a local restaurant runs 100–200 EGP. The better guesthouses (Adrère Amellal, Taziry, Shali Lodge) have their own kitchens producing more ambitious Siwan cuisine for guests.
