Narga Selassie

Narga Selassie is an eighteenth-century monastery on Dek Island, one of Lake Tana's major islands. It is farther out than the Zege Peninsula churches, which means fewer casual visitors and a stronger sense of travelling into the lake rather than just across its edge.

The church is known for its circular plan and painted interior, with the same layered mix of devotion, royal memory, and local artistry that makes the Lake Tana monasteries so rewarding. Arrange it as part of a longer boat circuit and confirm entry rules before leaving Bahir Dar.
