The park core is the reason to come: a broad sweep of coastal forest, savanna, mangrove, and lagoon protected as one of Gabon's thirteen national parks. It is not a manicured safari reserve. Tracks are rough, distances feel longer than they look on a map, and wildlife appears on its own terms.
That roughness is also why Loango is so memorable. In a single day you may move from tannin-dark water to open grass, then out to an Atlantic beach where elephant tracks cross the sand. The best visits are guided slowly, with time for birds, monkeys, forest buffalo, and the quieter signs of animals that passed through before dawn.
