The Yatouga area is associated with Loango's western lowland gorilla tracking, one of the park's most unusual activities. Visits are tightly managed and depend on permits, guides, and the status of the habituated group. Do not assume it can be arranged casually after arrival.
The appeal is not just the gorillas but the setting. Instead of climbing into cool volcanic mountains, you move through humid coastal forest near the lagoon, listening for trackers and watching the vegetation for signs of feeding. It is slower, less polished, and often more interesting for travelers who care about the process as much as the sighting.
