Upper East Regional Museum

The Upper East Regional Museum in Bolgatanga covers the history, culture, and ethnography of the Upper East Region, with collections focusing on the traditional crafts, social structures, and cultural practices of the Frafra, Tallensi, Kasem, and other peoples of the north. The exhibits include traditional musical instruments, farming tools, ceremonial objects, and examples of the basket-weaving traditions that have made the region internationally known.

The museum provides context for the sacred sites and cultural practices visible in the surrounding landscape. If you are visiting the Tengzug Shrine or the Paga crocodile ponds, the museum helps explain what you are seeing. Small admission fee; the collection is modest in scale but well-curated for a regional institution.
