Cape Three Points Lighthouse

Historic lighthouse compound above Ghana's southernmost point.

The lighthouse is the cape's essential stop. The old 1875 structure is a ruin, while the later 1925 lighthouse still marks the point for shipping and gives wide views over forest, village roofs, and the Atlantic.

There is usually a caretaker or local guide around, but arrangements can be informal. Bring small cash, ask before taking close-up photos of people, and give yourself time to enjoy the view rather than treating it as a quick tick-box stop.

A story
The first lighthouse here was built by the British in 1875 to guide ships along the Gulf of Guinea. Its ruined shell still stands near the newer 1925 tower, which gives the site a pleasing then-and-now quality.
