Mystic Stone

The Mystic Stone — also called the Acoustic Stone — is a large boulder near the centre of Larabanga that occupies an important place in local legend and ritual. Village tradition says that colonial road-builders tried to move it during road construction and found it back in its original position the next morning. The story echoes the tale told about the mosque's cornerstone and probably reflects a broader local theology about objects that belong where they are.

A guide from the village will walk you to both the stone and the mosque together; the two sites are close enough to combine in a single short circuit. Paying a modest guide fee — a few cedis — is both expected and appropriate. The stone itself is unremarkable to look at, but the context your guide provides about its role in village life makes it meaningful.
