Getting There

Navrongo is in the far north of Ghana, and getting there requires commitment. From Accra, the most practical route is the overnight bus to Bolgatanga — several companies run this service, and it takes around 12 hours. From Bolgatanga, Navrongo is 30 km west; shared taxis and tro-tros cover the route regularly and take about 40 minutes. Bolgatanga is the regional hub and has better accommodation options if you want a staging point.

Coming from Burkina Faso, the border crossing at Paga (15 km north of Navrongo) is one of the main land crossings between the two countries. Paga itself is worth stopping at for the sacred crocodile pond — a remarkable place where wild crocodiles are handled by locals without incident. The road from the border to Navrongo is straightforward.

There is no rail service to the Upper East Region.
