Navrongo Market

Busy weekly market serving the farming villages of the Kassena-Nankana district

The main market in Navrongo is a three-day-cycle affair drawing traders and farmers from across the surrounding savanna. It is not a curated experience. You will find millet, sorghum, groundnuts, dried fish, cloth, hardware, mobile phone accessories, and livestock in separate sections of the dusty market ground. The animal section — goats, chickens, the occasional donkey — is particularly lively.

Navrongo sits close to the border with Burkina Faso, and cross-border trade is evident in the goods on sale. Fabric from Ouagadougou, dried goods from the north, handwork from both sides of the frontier. The market is a good place to buy locally made woven baskets and pots, which come from villages in the district. Bargaining is expected and good-humoured.
