Paga Chief's Palace

The traditional compound of the Nakore chief stands near the main crocodile pond and is itself worth a look. It is built in the round, flat-roofed mud style characteristic of the Upper East Region, with painted geometric patterns on the exterior walls — the bold black-and-white or ochre designs that define Kassena and Nankani domestic architecture across this part of northern Ghana and southern Burkina Faso.

The palace is not a museum — people live and work here — but visitors are generally welcomed in the outer courtyards. A small attached craft market sells woven baskets, pottery, and traditional textiles. The chief's compound is next to the main crocodile pond, so most visitors pass through on their way to the water.
