The border with Burkina Faso is within easy walking distance of the town centre — one of the most accessible international crossings in West Africa. The Ghanaian side is at Paga; the Burkinabe side is at Dakola. The crossing is generally relaxed and straightforward for overland travellers with valid documents.
For most visitors, the border is a curiosity rather than a destination — worth walking to for the novelty of stepping briefly into Burkina Faso, or for those continuing overland to Ouagadougou. Shared taxis and minibuses run from Paga toward Navrongo (south) and Bolgatanga, the regional capital 25 km away.
