Langata

The suburb adjacent to Nairobi National Park, home to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Bomas of Kenya, and the Carnivore restaurant

Langata is a residential suburb bordering the northern edge of Nairobi National Park, about 10 km south of the city centre. The park's main gate is here, and several of Nairobi's best-known wildlife and cultural attractions are concentrated in the area: the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage, the Bomas of Kenya cultural centre, and the Carnivore restaurant.

The neighbourhood itself is middle-class and quiet, with larger plots than the denser inner suburbs. Langata Road, the main artery running south from Wilson Airport, is the spine of the area. Traffic on this road can be heavy at peak hours.

Most visitors come to Langata for the wildlife attractions rather than to stay, but the neighbourhood has a handful of mid-range hotels and guesthouses that provide a quieter alternative to downtown accommodation.
