Maasai Market

A rotating outdoor craft market with the best Maasai jewellery and traditional textiles in the city

The Maasai Market is an outdoor craft market that moves to different venues on different days of the week: Village Market on Fridays, the Junction on Saturdays, and other locations on other days. It is the best place in Nairobi to buy authentic Maasai beadwork — the long strands of coloured beads, wide neck collars, earrings, and bracelets are made by Maasai women and the selection here is deeper than in most shops.

Beyond Maasai jewellery, the market also has kikoi cloth, kikuyu baskets (colourful coiled sisal bowls), sandals, and small wooden carvings. Prices are negotiable. The Village Market venue, popular with the diplomatic community from nearby Gigiri, tends to have higher prices; the Junction market is often better value.

Check the current schedule before visiting — venues occasionally rotate. The market runs from late morning until early evening.
