Takaungu is a small Swahili fishing village about 15 km south of Kilifi, set on its own narrow creek. It feels several decades behind the rest of the coast: coral-rag houses, narrow lanes, a small ruined fort, and a population that still makes most of its living from fishing and seaweed farming.
The village beach is reached down a steep path through the cliffs and is one of the most photogenic spots on this stretch of coast — a small cove of white sand between low coral cliffs. A few small guesthouses cater to the trickle of visitors who find their way here.
