The Manga Ridge runs along the northern edge of the Gusii Highlands a few kilometres north of Kisii, rising to about 2,000 m. From the top there is a sweeping view south across the densely cultivated hills towards Tanzania, and on a clear day west to the haze of Lake Victoria.
The ridge has been important to the Gusii since pre-colonial times — caves along its eastern face served as refuges during raids by neighbouring tribes, and several were used as wartime hideouts during the Mau Mau emergency. A rough track climbs to the top from the village of Manga; ask for a guide in the village if you want to find the caves.
