Maseno School

Maseno School is one of the most historically significant secondary schools in Kenya, established in 1906 by the Church Missionary Society on the banks of the Yala River near the equator. The school educated generations of Kenyan leaders through the colonial and independence periods, and its alumni include some of the most prominent figures in modern Kenyan history.

The campus is not a tourist attraction in the conventional sense, but the school's grounds and mission-era buildings are a reminder of the educational ambitions that brought European missionaries to this remote part of western Kenya. Visitors should respect that this is a working school; any visit should be arranged in advance through the administration.

A story
Maseno School was founded in 1906 by Anglican missionaries and is one of the oldest secondary schools in East Africa. Its alumni include Oginga Odinga, Kenya's first Vice President, and Barack Obama Sr., father of the 44th President of the United States — a connection that has brought some international attention to this otherwise quietly distinguished institution.
