Maseno University

Maseno University is a public university established on the site of a former colonial-era school, spread across a campus that sits directly on the equator. It's the dominant institution in the town and gives Maseno much of its character as a young, educational community.

The equatorial position is the main curiosity for visitors: you can stand on the line and have one foot in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern. There's no elaborate monument — just a painted marker and the quiet satisfaction of being at 0° latitude. The university campus is generally open to visitors during daytime hours; the administration building and library are near the main gate.

A story
Maseno University sits precisely on the equator — the university's main gate straddles the line, and the campus is divided into "northern" and "southern" sections. Students and staff cross from one hemisphere to the other multiple times a day without thinking about it. A painted line marks the equator's path across the campus.
