Things to Do

The old town itself is the main attraction — exploring the covered alleyways and rooftop walkways can fill a full day.

Djamaa al-Kabir (Great Mosque) — The minaret can be climbed and offers an excellent view over the old town and surrounding oasis.

House Museum — Near the western entrance to the old town, this old merchant's house has been preserved with its original furnishings and decorations. It gives a vivid sense of how people lived in these mud-brick interiors.

Square of the Mulberry — The old slave market, near the Great Mosque. Ghadames was an important stop on the trans-Saharan trade route, where gold, salt, and slaves changed hands.
