Qasr al-Haj is one of the most photogenic fortified granaries in western Libya, a round, honeycombed structure of mud-brick cells built around an open courtyard. It looks almost theatrical, but its purpose was practical: safe communal storage for food and valuables.
It is usually visited as part of a Nafusa Mountains circuit rather than as a quick stop from Jefren alone. Give yourself time to stand in the courtyard and look up at the stacked chambers; the geometry is simple, clever, and very beautiful.
