Sanctuary of Apollo

The Sanctuary of Apollo lies below the main ridge, where springs emerge from the rock and the city seems to step down into a more sheltered world. Temples, terraces, baths, and theatre remains are gathered around the sacred water.

It is one of the most atmospheric parts of Cyrene because it combines architecture with landscape so well. The ruins are not just placed on the hill; they respond to the water, cliff, and valley.

A story
The sanctuary grew around a spring sacred to Apollo and Cyra. In a dry region, the presence of water helped make the place religiously powerful as well as practically valuable.
