Toliara's waterfront is not a polished promenade, but it gives the city its orientation. The bay, the heat, the pirogues, and the dusty streets all meet here, and the light is best when the sun begins to drop.
Come for a walk rather than a swim. The coast around town is working coastline, and the more appealing beaches require a trip north toward Ifaty or south toward Anakao.
