Eating Out

Dining options in Chintheche are modest but satisfying. The Chintheche Inn has the most reliable kitchen in the area, serving straightforward meals — grilled fish, rice, and local vegetables — alongside cold drinks on the veranda overlooking the lake. The freshwater chambo (a large cichlid) is the local speciality, typically pan-fried and served whole.

In Chintheche town itself, a handful of small local restaurants and roadside stalls cater to travellers and residents alike. Expect simple Malawian staples: nsima (stiff maize porridge), beans, and whatever fresh fish came in that morning. Self-caterers can pick up basics — tomatoes, onions, dried beans, bread — at the small shops in town.
