Goodlands Market

The Goodlands fair, three kilometres inland from Grand Gaube, is the largest open-air market in the north of Mauritius — fruit, vegetables, fish, household goods, fabrics, and the inevitable phone-accessory stalls, spread along a long covered street and the surrounding lanes. It runs every day except Monday, but is biggest on Saturday.

This is a working local market, not a tourist set-up — prices are low and the bargaining is genuine. Try the dholl puri and gateaux piment from the food stalls for lunch.
