Grand Gaube is the closest mainland village to the cluster of small islands off the north coast — Coin de Mire (Gunner's Quoin), Île Plate (Flat Island), Île Ronde (Round Island) and Île aux Serpents (Snake Island). Catamaran and speedboat day trips run from the harbour, usually as a full-day excursion with snorkelling, a beach barbecue lunch and a passage close to the seabird-nesting cliffs of Coin de Mire.
Île Plate has the better landing beach and is the most common stop. Île Ronde and Île aux Serpents are nature reserves with restricted access. Book the trip a day or two ahead; the smaller operators run only when they have enough passengers.
