The Dutch Ruins at Vieux Grand Port mark the oldest European settlement in Mauritius. The remains are modest, but they are one of the few places on the island where the Dutch period is visible on the ground rather than just in a museum caption.
Come for historical context rather than spectacle. The site pairs well with the National History Museum in Mahébourg and the shoreline around Grand Port Bay.
