Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is 10 kilometres north of Mahébourg, making this the closest town to the island's main gateway. Taxis from the airport are readily available — agree a price before getting in, or ask your accommodation to arrange a pickup. The journey to central Mahébourg takes around 15 minutes.
From Port Louis and other parts of the island, public buses run to Mahébourg from the central bus stations. The south-east coastal route passes through several small towns and takes around an hour from the capital. Car rental is the most flexible option for exploring the south coast and Blue Bay.
