Riambel is a long stretch of public beach west of Surinam village, much less developed than anything around Flic-en-Flac or the north coast. The water here is more exposed — a real southern coast, with stronger surf and stronger trade winds — and the beach is fringed by casuarina trees that drop a thick carpet of needles.
Weekends bring families from inland villages with picnics and music; on weekdays it can be almost empty. Swimming is possible but watch the currents, particularly outside the reef pass. The beach is a good stop on the south-coast drive between Souillac and Le Morne.
