The working port at the mouth of the Loukkos estuary is one of the livelier corners of Larache, especially in the early morning when the fishing boats return and the catch is unloaded. The fish market nearby sells whatever came in that day — sardines, sea bass, sole, octopus — and the surrounding stalls and cafés do a brisk trade.
From the port, small boat taxis cross the estuary to the beach on the far bank. The crossing takes a few minutes and costs almost nothing. The boatmen run the service through the day and into the evening in summer. It is the most pleasant way to reach the beach, and the view back to the town — the white buildings, the kasbah on its bluff, the fishing boats at anchor — is worth the crossing alone.
