Dar el Bacha (Museum of Confluences)

Glaoui pasha palace turned museum, with one of Marrakesh's finest historic courtyards

A grand early-twentieth-century palace built for Thami el Glaoui, the autocratic pasha of Marrakesh under the French Protectorate, restored and reopened in 2017 as a museum dealing with the dialogue between religions and cultures in Morocco. The exhibits are reasonable; the building is the real attraction — vast courtyards of Carrara marble, mosaic-tiled fountains, carved cedar doors, and a famously photogenic central courtyard with a single citrus tree at each corner.

The adjacent Bacha Coffee shop, in the original palace kitchens, is a serious destination for coffee drinkers and one of the calmest places in the medina to sit down.
