Souk Haddadine (Ironworkers' Souk)

The metalworkers' quarter on the northern side of the souks, where blacksmiths and tinsmiths still cut and pierce sheet metal into the lanterns and lamps that hang in half the cafés of Europe. Visitors usually come to buy lanterns but the real interest is the workshops: tiny doorways open onto rooms where a master and apprentices hammer at red-hot iron over coal forges.
