Souk Semmarine

The main spine of the central souks, running north from Jemaa el-Fna under a striped wooden roof that throws bars of sunlight onto the cobbles below. The northern end branches off into dozens of specialist sub-souks: ironwork (Souk Haddadine), leather (Souk Chouari), babouches (Souk Smata), textiles, dyes, ceramics. Allow at least half a day for a proper wander.

The shopkeepers expect to bargain. The opening price is usually three to four times what the seller will eventually accept. Be polite, name a third of the asked price, and walk away if you cannot agree.
