The Grand Dune near Merzouga is part of the Erg Chebbi dune field, the Saharan landscape most travellers come to the village to experience. Its height and clean lines make sunrise and sunset feel theatrical even when other visitors are nearby.
The dune is best approached with care: sand walking is slow, heat can be serious, and responsible guides help reduce damage to fragile desert areas. Even a short climb can give a strong sense of the erg's scale.
