M'Hamid is at the end of the paved road through the Draa Valley, about 90 km south of Zagora and about 10 hours by bus from Marrakech. CTM and Supratours both run direct bus services from Marrakech; the journey follows the Draa Valley for most of its southern section and is scenic throughout.
By car from Marrakech, the most direct route goes over the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2260m) and down through Ouarzazate, then southeast through Agdez and Zagora to M'Hamid — about 7 hours depending on stops. The road surface is generally good. Taxis collectifs (shared taxis) also operate between Zagora and M'Hamid. Beyond M'Hamid, all desert travel requires a 4x4.
