Corniche and Beach

Mohammedia's corniche runs for several kilometres along the Atlantic, lined with cafés, ice-cream stands, and a wide promenade that fills with families on summer evenings. The beach itself is long and sandy, with lifeguards posted in season, but the Atlantic swells are strong and currents can be tricky for unsteady swimmers.

The atmosphere is relaxed and unselfconscious — this is where Casablanca comes to escape on a Friday afternoon, rather than a tourist front. The southern end, near the port, is the liveliest; walk further north for a quieter stretch of sand. Avoid the section directly downwind of the refinery on still days.
