Ksar El Fida is one of the more important fortified settlements in the Tafilalet, tied to the Alaouite dynasty and the old power structures around Rissani. Its high walls and towers are the main impression from outside; inside, restored rooms and courtyards give a glimpse of how authority was housed and displayed in this oasis region.
The site is quieter than Rissani's souk and less evocative than the ruins of Sijilmassa, but it fills in the local story well. It works best as part of a half-day circuit around Rissani's historic ksour.
