Chitengo is Gorongosa's main visitor base and the practical centre of the park. This is where most travellers sleep, book activities, meet guides, and start game drives before dawn.
Do not expect a luxury safari bubble. Chitengo is more interesting than that: park staff, researchers, guides, and visitors all pass through, so the camp gives you a sense of the conservation project behind the wildlife. It is also the place to ask about current road conditions and which areas are productive.
