Ibo requires planning to reach, and that effort is part of what keeps it special. The gateway is Pemba, which has a domestic airport with connections from Maputo. From Pemba you can reach Ibo by speedboat (around two hours), by traditional dhow (longer, weather-dependent), or by light aircraft charter (around 20 minutes). Some lodges arrange transfers for guests.
There is no road access — Ibo is an island — and no regular ferry schedule. Before visiting, check current travel advisories for Cabo Delgado province; security conditions have been volatile since 2017, and advice changes frequently.
