Ibo sits in the middle of the Quirimbas Archipelago, a chain of around thirty coral islands stretching down the Mozambican coast. Most are uninhabited; many are inside the Quirimbas National Park, which protects mangrove, reef, and marine life.
A dhow or speedboat trip to one of the neighbouring islands -- Quirimba, Matemo, or the smaller sandbars further out -- is the natural complement to a stay on Ibo. Lodges arrange day trips with snorkelling, a beach lunch, and a stop at a fishing village. The reefs here are in better shape than most of the rest of the Mozambican coast.
