Grande Mosquée

UNESCO-listed 16th-century mud-brick mosque with a 27-meter minaret

The Grande Mosquée's 27-meter minaret, built from sun-dried mud bricks with protruding wooden beams, dominates the Agadez skyline and is visible from almost anywhere in the city. It was first built in the 16th century and has been restored several times since, most recently in the 1980s. The mosque and its surrounding historic district were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.

You can enter the mosque and climb the minaret for a panoramic view over the city and, on clear days, toward the Air Mountains. Entry is not permitted on Friday mornings during prayers.
